Duchesne Society Liturgy and Luncheon

November 18th is the Feast Day for St. Philippine Duchesne, who brought Sacred Heart education to the United States. Her sainthood is celebrated each year with an all-school liturgy at St. Dominic's. It is an amazing sight to see all of our students and teachers worshiping together in that beautiful church.

The Duchesne Society is a legacy group formed to honor those who remember Schools of the Sacred Heart in their estate planning. Duchesne Society members were invited to this inspirational liturgy which was followed by a luncheon at the Flood Mansion.

This year’s luncheon honored Clare McEvoy, CSH’31 CES’27. Clare left a significant bequest that will serve Schools of the Sacred Heart for years to come by supporting the Schools’ libraries. Dr. Kevin Starr, State Librarian Emeritus and former Sacred Heart parent, was the keynote speaker. He talked about the influence Sacred Heart education has had in San Francisco and the importance of libraries in the electronic age.

Kevin Starr addresses the Duchesne Society with his wife,
Sheila, at his side. Sheila is a graduate of San Francisco College for Women, Lone
Mountain.

Virginia Murillo H'48 E'44, Pat Tarantino Woodley H'53 and Dolores McKeever Donahue H'48 share stories of their student days.

Jane Lesh, former Librarian at Convent Sacred Heart High School, catches up with Sr. Mary Mardel, RSCJ.
